By far, the most stressful part of planning your family photos is choosing what to wear. For my clients, I always send a guide with tips and tricks but, I wanted to take it a step further.
If you know anything about me- I love to shop! But it’s not because I like buying a bunch of things- I actually prefer to have less items in my home- I just Iove to create. Lately, I’ve been helping with decorating my mom’s new home and I have thoroughly enjoyed searching for the perfect pieces. There is something about finding the most gorgeous pillow for a steal of a deal that just gets me excited! haha
Just like decorating, I love to put outfits together! Through the years I have done my fair share of shopping all over Boise, Meridian, and Nampa with my clients for their outfits. I thought it would be fun to do a seasonal roundup of some cute pieces for pictures!
These will all be from Amazon today- so click the picture if you’d like to see the listing. If you have any pieces you love- share the link in the comments and let me know what you think!
For color palette- choose colors that will go well with the decorations in your home. That way- once you put the photos on display, it will look gorgeous on the wall and complete the space!
Also- don’t over think things. If you feel like you aren’t good at coordinating outfits my #1 suggestion is to choose only solid colored pieces and stray away from pattern. Begin with a solid colored piece and add layers and texture instead of pattern to bring interest.
Mom
I always suggest choosing mom’s outfit first. My dad used to say “if momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy”. And I seriously think this is true! You will love your photos 100 times better if you love what you are wearing! Dad is simple and really- the kids are too! Here are some really cute and affordable dresses on Amazon.
In the summertime it’s too hot to add cardigans or scarves- so be sure to complete the outfit and add some statement jewelry.
Below are some patterned pieces I love for mommas. You might consider basing your whole color palette off a patterned dress you love. If you do buy something patterned- make sure it’s not too busy- no more than two things “going on”. You want the focus to be on your faces not on a piece of clothing.
Dresses are so easy and can be flattering and feminine. Each of them have many color options as well!
I suggest dressing them up just a little bit with some chunky jewelry/accessories. You can even choose some unique colored shoes!
If you don’t want to go for a dress- wear your favorite pair of jeans with a textured top. Here are a few from Amazon:
Dad
Dads are the easiest in my opinion. Out of all the people- don’t overthink dad’s outfit! A pair of jeans or slacks are great with a button up or polo in the right color! Keep it a solid color that compliments yours if you are wearing a pattern and this can really make dressing dad simple.
If you want to throw him in a patterned top- here are a few that are great!
Brother
Just like dads- I suggest not overthinking what the little boys wear! A pair of slacks or jeans is great- then add a top that compliments mom and dad’s outfits.
If you are dressing up rather than doing a causal look- you could add a bowtie and suspenders.
As they get older- I suggest pretty much doing the same thing as you do for dad- a button up or polo!
Sister
There are lots of options when it comes to dressing sister- you can do a dress with some accessories, leggings and a long shirt, or jeans and a shirt. Here are some cute options on Amazon:
All Together Now
Now I am going to put together a mock outfit set for a family with 2 parents, 4 kids. Mom, Dad, 10 year old sister, 8 year old brother, 4 year old sister, and 9 month old brother.
A popular color combo right now is grey, blush, white/cream, with hints of blue. Many are decorating with these colors so I thought it would be fun to come up with outfits with these colors! All of these are from Amazon- and everything is linked below the image.
