FUN FACT! I work for Bella Baby Photography at 5 local hospitals in the Treasure Valley- two in Nampa, one in Meridian, and two in Boise. There are currently 10 ladies on our team- I LOVE this job and all I have learned from it. I have photographed over 1000 babies over the span of about 2 1/2 years.
I do offer fresh 48 sessions through Kristy Belle Photography as well- so if you are interested in pricing please head over to my contact page!
Because I have such an extensive experience in photographing in the hospital- I know what to bring for your first session with your baby to make it amazing.
1- A Pretty Robe for Mom
I always suggest mommas being in the photos for the fresh 48 session. I did not feel my best and didn’t want to be in my son’s photos very much- but I did do it- and I am so glad I did. I still look at the photos and cry!
You want to feel great in what you are wearing and that hospital gown probably won’t do it for ya! haha I got myself a new really comfy outfit for after having Calder and it was so nice to treat myself after having a baby.
I love the soft look of a robe on mommas- I suggest getting a solid colored one that way the images can stay soft and focused on baby. Here are a few I love- click on the image to see the listing:
The pink one is by far my fave (might just have to get it for myself for no reason at all! haha) You can get it in blue as well- which would be adorable! Depending on if you have a boy or girl- you can choose the color that matches.
2- Baby Blanket and Accessories
I avoid using just an outfit because often newborns don’t feel happy or secure without being swaddled. They just spent their whole life up to this point squished so all this extra space feels a bit scary. This is why I suggest getting a swaddle you love for photos.
The best blankets for swaddling your cute new babe are either muslin swaddles or jersey knit swaddles. They wrap really well and are stretchy enough to help them feel secure. Here are examples of what I’m talking about: (click on each image to see the listing on Amazon)
BONUS TIP: avoid neon colors!
You may want to add a bow or hat! For bows- understated is better. If you put too big of a bow on their head it will be hard to focus on their face.
Choose the accessories to match their swaddle. Here are some cute ones: (click image to see listing)
3- For Dad and Siblings
I highly suggest having dad and any siblings there (if applicable). If you do have them come- YAY! Have them wear something cute and neutral. Avoid neons, bright colors, or too much pattern so the focus stays on baby and so that the colors don’t cast onto baby.
