Ah man… I have been meaning to do this blog post for MONTHS. But client posts come first so this got pushed off far too long haha
Back in April, we took a trip with Cole’s family to San Diego! Right before Calder turned one. And…. yes. I took a break from my camera (mostly… haha) and took photos almost exclusively on my phone.
The Drive
We drove down to San Diego from Boise and I was so surprised with how well Calder did. Of course, he did get restless but I prepared SO many things to try to keep him busy. He is the most energetic kid- so I had my work cut out for me. We brought many dvd’s to go with our portable player. He enjoyed Barney the most! I also hit up the dollar section at Walmart and the Dollar Tree to get tons of cheap toys and objects he could figure out. Some of his favorites were the bendy bunnies and the pom-poms. I stuck the pom-poms into an old tubberware container and cut different sized holes so that he could fit the pom-poms in the right slot. He also loved the play remote we got him. Luckily, baby toys are cheap so it wasn’t too bad.
We stayed in a Airbnb- which was great! It was nice to stay in the same space with family.
Day One
On the first day- we took it easy since we got in late the night before. We went to Old Town San Diego. I loved all the Spanish inspired architecture. We also stopped by the Mormon Batallion site where the kids learned about some history and panned for gold. We ate a late lunch at the most delicious Mexican restaurant- their meals were HUGE. Cole, Calder, and I shared one- and could not finish it.
Day Two/Four
The second and fourth days- we visited the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park! They are both HUGE. I was so exhausted after walking that whole place. Surprisingly enough- I preferred the San Diego Safari Park over the zoo. We all loved the Safari drive and I preferred the exhibits at the Safari Park most. I figured I would lump these together since they are similar!
Day Three
We went to Sea World as well! Not much to say other than it was a blast! haha I didn’t really take too many photos here since we were so busy riding rides! The food was so good here- we got the unlimited pass- which was awesome! haha I rode one “big person” ride and it was THE WORST. I am so so scared of roller coasters that twist and go too fast. So I mostly rode kids rides.
The Beach
We did go to the beach one of the days- it’s been so long I can’t remember which! haha It was so fun to splash in the water. Calder really enjoyed finding shells too. I did pull out my big camera for this occasion to take some photos of everyone! (some are iphone photos, some are from my DSLR)
