A Boise Photographer’s Spring Family Activity Guide

Spring in Boise is one of my favorite times of year. The foothills start turning green again, the days get longer, and it finally feels like everyone is ready to get outside after winter.

As a Boise family photographer, I spend a lot of time exploring parks, trails, and different spots around the area. Over the years I’ve found a few simple spring activities that families here really love. If you’re looking for ideas, here are a few easy ways to enjoy spring with your kids.

1. Visit a Local Park or Walk the Greenbelt

Boise has so many beautiful parks that are perfect for slow afternoons with kids. Pack a picnic, bring scooters or bikes, and let the kids explore.

Some family favorites include:

  • Camel’s Back Park
  • Kathryn Albertson Park
  • Julia Davis Park

The Boise River Greenbelt is also a great place for a spring walk. In the spring everything starts blooming again and it’s such a peaceful place to spend an afternoon.

2. Plant Something Together

Spring is the perfect time to start a small garden with your kids. It doesn’t have to be anything big.

You could plant:

  • herbs in a small pot
  • flowers in the yard
  • a small vegetable garden

Kids love checking on their plants each day and seeing what has grown.

3. Have a Backyard Picnic

Sometimes the simplest activities end up being the most memorable. Lay out a blanket in the backyard, bring out a few snacks, and enjoy a slow afternoon outside.

A few easy picnic ideas:

  • sandwiches
  • lemonade
  • fruit or popsicles

It’s a simple way to turn an ordinary day into something a little more fun.

4. Go on a Spring Scavenger Hunt

Turn a regular walk into a little adventure by making a simple spring scavenger hunt.

Things kids can look for:

  • flowers
  • butterflies
  • birds
  • puddles
  • new leaves on trees

This works well in your neighborhood, local parks, or anywhere along the Boise foothills.

5. Visit the Boise Farmers Market

A favorite spring tradition for many local families is visiting the Boise Farmers Market.

The market opens April 11 and runs every Saturday, and it’s such a fun way to spend a morning walking around downtown. You can grab fresh produce, baked goods, coffee, and shop from local vendors.

Kids usually love picking out flowers, trying samples, and seeing all the different booths.

6. Update Your Family Photos This Spring

Spring is also one of the most beautiful seasons for family photos in Boise. The foothills turn green, trees begin blooming, and the evening light is soft and warm.

As a Boise photographer, I love photographing families this time of year because everything feels fresh and natural outdoors. It’s a great time to capture your family before summer gets busy.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos this year, spring sessions are a really beautiful option.

Spring in Boise is such a special season for families. Whether it’s a slow walk along the Greenbelt, visiting the farmers market, or spending time outside with your kids, there are so many simple ways to make memories this time of year.

And if family photos happen to be on your list this spring, I’d love to help you plan a session and capture this season for your family.
